Ever since Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) announced its exit from the fight game, there have been speculations about its future. As the last cable broadcaster for PBC, the question of where it would end up loomed large. Finally, the organization has found a new home on Amazon Prime, marking a significant development for the sport. PBC recently revealed a deal with Prime Video on Thursday.
“Prime Video and Premier Boxing Champions have announced a new multi-year rights agreement beginning in 2024,” stated PBC on social media. “Prime Video will be home to PBC’s pay-per-view events, championship games, behind-the-scenes documentaries and more. #PBCONPrime.”
Furthermore, “Today, Prime Video and Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) announced a groundbreaking multi-year rights agreement to broadcast the boxing industry’s most important events, giving fans access to some of the world’s biggest stars,” the media reported. “We will be making the best matches featuring the best available to watch all year round.”
Aside from the pay-per-view events, fans will have access to game-related programming through a subscription to Amazon Prime. Pay-per-view events will require an additional fee. It will be interesting to see how Prime approaches this programming style, especially considering its successful broadcast deal with the National Football League (NFL).
PBC boasts some of the best fighters in the world, such as Canelo Alvarez, and Amazon Prime is deeply involved in professional boxing. The first PBC event on Prime Video is scheduled for March.
“We’re excited to work with Premier Boxing Champions to bring the world’s best boxers to Prime Video and give more fans than ever the opportunity to experience a must-see event,” said Amazon’s Marie Donahue. “By broadcasting PBC activities live throughout the calendar year, Prime Video will continue to bring the best in sports to viewers in the U.S. and around the world.”
Despite numerous declarations of its demise, the sport of boxing continues to forge ahead and evolve.
