The highly anticipated Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) showdown in the Light Heavyweight division between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev has been creating quite a buzz. Pereira recently triumphed in defending his title at UFC 303, making history as the first 205-pound champion to achieve multiple successful defenses since Jon Jones in 2020. In his latest fight, he secured a knockout victory over Jiri Prochazka in the second round, in a rematch that was organized at short notice following Conor McGregor’s withdrawal from the original main event against Michael Chandler.
Ranked No. 2 in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight category, Ankalaev is eagerly waiting for his opportunity to challenge for the title. He is confident that his speed and skills can outmatch Pereira, believing he can defeat him in a stand-up battle. Ankalaev’s most recent achievement was a knockout win against Johnny Walker in January 2024, extending his remarkable unbeaten streak to 12 fights.
If Pereira chooses to make a move to the Heavyweight division instead of defending his current title, it could open up the possibility for some historic matchups in the UFC.
