Amid significant interest from fans, Dana White, the CEO of the UFC, has suggested a potential mega-fight between champions Jon Jones and Alex Pereira, deeming it a realistic “possibility”. Long-time commentator Joe Rogan is also in favor of seeing this showdown materialize.
Jon Jones, the reigning heavyweight champion and former two-time light heavyweight titleholder, has been inactive for more than 500 days. He is anticipated to return to the Octagon later this year after addressing legal troubles stemming from an incident in March involving a drug testing official.
In his last bout in March of the previous year, Jones secured a victory by submitting Ciryl Gane with a first-round guillotine choke. He is set to face former two-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November.
As for Pereira, a former two-weight class champion, he headlined UFC 303 and defeated Jiri Prochazka via a second-round high-kick knockout. Pereira is contemplating a jump to the heavyweight division with ambitions of becoming UFC’s first-ever three-division champion, with a potential title clash against Jones looming.
White has affirmed that the much-anticipated clash between Jones and Pereira remains a realistic “possibility”, crediting Rogan for his role in advocating for the bout.
When discussing the potential matchup, White lauded Jones as one of the premier combat athletes in history, drawing comparisons to icons like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.
As anticipation builds around this potential super fight, the big question arises: who will come out on top between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira?
