Memorable boxing trilogies like Ali-Frazier, Zale-Graziano, and Fury-Wilder are widely known, but the series of battles between Arturo Gatti and “Irish” Micky Ward about two decades ago still send shivers down the spines of fight enthusiasts. These unforgettable showdowns occurred in 2002 and 2003, with Ward emerging victorious in the initial bout and Gatti claiming victory in the two subsequent rematches. Each fight was a spectacle, leaving spectators awe-struck. The Ward-Gatti trilogy remains a topic of discussion today, as fans look back on the remarkable matches. Ward stepped away from boxing after the trilogy, which served as the inspiration for the film The Fighter, while Gatti tragically passed away in 2009.
Although retired from active competition, Ward remains a beloved figure in the boxing community and is set to make a special appearance at the Boxing Insider event in Atlantic City at the Tropicana on Friday evening. Fans will have the opportunity to meet the iconic fighter from Lowell, MA, engage in discussions with him, or secure his autograph.
