Kyoji Horiguchi has his sights set on achieving specific goals before wrapping up his career. However, the chances of turning these ambitions into reality might be uncertain.

Currently, Horiguchi is getting ready for a significant bantamweight rematch to reclaim RIZIN’s flyweight title against Sergio Pettis at RIZIN 47 next month. Their initial encounter ended dramatically with Pettis delivering a knockout blow with a spinning back fist in the fourth round at Bellator 272 in December 2021, marking one of the most unforgettable comebacks in recent MMA history.

Following his victory as the first-ever RIZIN flyweight champion at RIZIN 45 in December 2023, Horiguchi made waves by securing titles across various RIZIN divisions. Despite expressing a desire to come back to the UFC, he has mentioned that the promotion hasn’t shown much interest in him.

Though there were discussions about a potential showdown between Horiguchi and Alexandre Pantoja for the UFC flyweight title at UFC 301, it remained out of reach due to Horiguchi’s commitments with RIZIN and the PFL. Horiguchi and Pantoja, who both train at American Top Team, have indicated they would be willing to face each other if the opportunity arises.

Going forward, Horiguchi aims to secure a UFC championship and expand his collection of titles. His immediate focus lies in defeating Pettis in the upcoming rematch and then exploring new opportunities outside the PFL due to weight class restrictions.

In the grand scheme of things, Horiguchi’s ultimate goal is to clinch titles in various organizations, understanding that the realization of these ambitions hinges on the opportunities that come his way.
