It’s been a while since Michael Chandler last fought in the octagon. The former Bellator Lightweight champion has been hoping for a fight with Conor McGregor. Despite efforts to set up a fight for UFC 303 in June 2024, McGregor had to pull out due to a broken toe, leaving Chandler without a match since November 2022.
Chandler recently talked about his readiness to move forward and beat McGregor in the Octagon. Both fighters want to reschedule the fight for December 2024, but UFC CEO Dana White has said McGregor won’t fight in 2024.
If the fight happens, it’s likely to be in the Welterweight division as planned for UFC 303. This would be a new weight class for Chandler, while McGregor last fought at 170 pounds in January 2020, beating Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in 40 seconds.
