Carmella, a WWE star, recently looked back on her win of the Money in the Bank contract in 2017. During the match, there was controversy as James Ellsworth interfered and grabbed the briefcase for her, although she wasn’t originally supposed to win the ladder match. Carmella held the contract for a record 287 days before cashing in on Charlotte Flair to become the “WWE SmackDown” Women’s Champion.

On “The Nikki and Brie Show,” Carmella shared that Becky Lynch was actually planned to win the Money in the Bank contract in 2017. Last-minute changes led to Carmella’s unexpected victory. She expressed surprise at the decision, given her relatively short time on the main roster at that point.

Following the controversial win, WWE organized another match for the women to battle for the briefcase because of Ellsworth’s involvement. Carmella emerged victorious in that match as well, cementing her status as the rightful holder of the Money in the Bank contract. She attributes a promo she delivered on “SmackDown” after her initial win to influencing backstage opinions.
