During his long and impressive career consisting of 140 professional bouts, Tommy Farr, a boxer from Wales, faced defeat only 6 times. Even boxing legends like Max Baer, Jimmy Braddock, and Lou Nova failed to knock him out. Notably, Farr went the distance with Joe Louis, the renowned “Brown Bomber,” in a memorable match on August 30, 1937.

Despite being considered a significant underdog, Farr posed a formidable challenge to Louis. Although Louis managed to cause damage to Farr’s eyes and put his chin to the test, Farr displayed immense resilience and continued to fight on. The audience was astonished when Farr landed impactful punches on Louis in the 8th round. Even though Louis retaliated with powerful uppercuts, Farr stood his ground.

The fight concluded with Louis winning by a unanimous decision, but the audience expressed their dissent through boos due to what they perceived as biased scoring in Louis’s favor. Farr returned to Wales as a hero, having earned admiration from the American public for his remarkable performance. Despite not receiving a rematch, Farr’s legacy as one of Wales’ most esteemed boxers endures. He pushed Louis harder than most challengers and deserves to be recognized as a true warrior of the sport.
