There has been ongoing speculation regarding the potential creation of a 165-pound super lightweight division in the UFC. Lightweight fighter Rafael Fiziev has indicated that the UFC is on the verge of approving the launch of this new division.

Fiziev, currently ranked No. 8 in the lightweight division, has been inactive since his defeat against Mateusz Gamrot due to a knee injury. He mentioned that the UFC is close to making an official announcement about the new weight class.

Rumors suggest that a 165-pound division will be introduced by the UFC soon.

During his time away from competing, Fiziev was involved in a Fight of the Year candidate last year, despite losing to Justin Gaethje. He confirmed that the UFC has already set plans in motion for the new 165-pound weight division.

“I have received confirmation that the UFC is planning to introduce a 165-pound division,” said Rafael Fiziev in an interview. He added, “It’s not just a rumor; they’ve made progress towards it.”

Fiziev’s statements align with former champion Daniel Cormier’s belief that Conor McGregor would likely be a major contender in the new weight class if introduced by the UFC.

“If the 165-pound division is established, Conor McGregor should be part of it,” stated Daniel Cormier in an interview. He emphasized the importance of having meaningful fighters in the new division, referencing past instances where additional weight classes did not yield significant results.

Who do you predict will be competing in the 165-pound division for the title?
