Ryan Garcia’s Suspected Contaminated Supplements

Ryan Garcia and his team suspect that contaminated supplements may be the cause of his positive tests for banned substances. Garcia has pointed to two supplements, Body Health Perfect Amino and NutraBIO Super Carb, which tested positive for trace amounts of Ostarine [Enobosarm] during his training. Lab reports from the WADA-accredited Sports Medicine Research & Testing (SMRTL) lab, shared with VADA, revealed the presence of Ostarine in samples taken from Garcia before and after his fight against Devin Haney.

His legal team confirmed that the positive test results were due to supplement contamination rather than intentional use of prohibited substances. The supplements provided for testing had opened containers but were securely taped for shipping. However, only Garcia’s containers were tested, leaving some questions about the lack of other samples from the same batch.

Although there are ongoing investigations, Garcia’s team maintains his innocence and commitment to fair competition. They highlighted a negative hair sample test conducted by Dr. Pascal Kintz as further evidence of Garcia’s adherence to clean sport. Nevertheless, the absence of corroborating documentation for this test has led to doubts about its validity.

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) is looking into the issue and is expected to reach a decision soon. Haney’s team has expressed skepticism about Garcia’s claims of contamination, pushing for Garcia to face disqualification. Such a ruling could have significant implications, potentially leading to the fight’s outcome being changed to a No-Contest, which would be unprecedented under NYSAC regulations.

The situation has shed light on concerns about drug testing protocols in boxing and the responsibility of athletes to ensure they steer clear of banned substances. Garcia’s victory over Haney now hangs in the balance, casting uncertainty on both fighters’ records and standing in the sport.
