Ryan Garcia has been suspended from competing for a minimum of one year by the New York State Athletic Commission after testing positive for prohibited substances following his fight against Devin Haney on April 20. Due to this development, Garcia will not be stepping back into the ring anytime soon. As part of the resolution, Garcia will lose his $1.1 million contract earnings to Golden Boy Promotions and will also need to pay a $10,000 state fine. Moreover, his win against Haney has been nullified, changing his record to 24-1.

The suspension and fines come in light of Garcia’s unusual behavior before and during the match, such as coming in overweight and making controversial claims on social media. While Garcia’s team attributes the positive drug test to contaminated supplements, Garcia has decided to take a break from boxing but plans to make a comeback post his suspension. He has even hinted at a possible switch to UFC, garnering interest from Dana White.

Following the restoration of his record to 31-0, Devin Haney appreciates the commission’s ruling but questions why Golden Boy Promotions would receive any portion of the fight earnings. Garcia’s team insists on his innocence and pledges to continue seeking reforms in the sport. Despite facing setbacks, Garcia remains resolute and aims to return stronger, refuting any allegations of foul play.
