UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley doesn’t think Paddy Pimblett has much to gain from defeating Tony Ferguson.
Pimblett (20-3 MMA, 4-0 UFC) will take on the sliding Ferguson (25-9 MMA, 15-7 UFC) at UFC 296 on Dec. 16 in Las Vegas.
Pimblett and Ferguson are on very different career trajectories. “El Cucuy” has lost his last six fights, but Pimblett is unbeaten in the Octagon since defeating Jared Gordon at UFC 282 last December.
“My first reaction was, ‘Damn, this is a loss for Paddy,'” O’Malley said in an interview. YouTube channel. “If you go out there and beat Tony, he’s really good but he’s lost six in a row. So even if you beat him, you don’t get the credit for beating Tony Ferguson. You won’t get honor by doing this, but this is a dangerous fight. It’s not going to be an easy fight. It’s going to be a tough fight. Tony could win this fight 100 percent. Now you… I’m getting over losing to the guy – I mean, at least it’s still T-Ferg, but it’s like, is it T-Ferg? I don’t know.”
according to draft kings, Pimblett is a -380 favorite. That means it would take his $380 bet on “The Baddy” to return his $100 profit. Ferguson is a +300 underdog. So if he bet $100 on the former interim champion, he would win $300.
UFC CEO Dana White has touted the fight as competitive, but also acknowledged that the 39-year-old should probably retire if he loses seven straight.
