Sean Strickland has shared his version of the events regarding his viral encounter with musician Machine Gun Kelly.
The former UFC middleweight champion made waves last Friday after an awkward interaction with MGK in the crowd at a powerslap event in Las Vegas.
Strickland and MGK seemed to have a normal conversation for a brief moment before things took a turn. Strickland appeared to take offense at MGK’s remarks, mocked him, and walked away, escalating the situation.
In an interview, Strickland said, “[Luke Trembath] introduces us to the vampire [Machine Gun Kelly], and we’re making fun of him. I’m like, ‘Hey, what are you wearing?’ What’s going on there? How do you do it?’ He looked at me and didn’t laugh or chuckle, but looked at me like, ‘Why would this man with no respect talk to me like this?’…He looked at me like I was less than human.”
“…I was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to put you down now.’ Then she kind of interrupted me and said, ‘Calm down,’ and she escorted me out.”
That same night, Strickland had another tense exchange with the influencer. It seems that he didn’t have a good time at Powerslap considering the people he invited as guests.
“You don’t understand, people who participate in these slap fights, they’re not human beings,” Strickland said. “They’re influencers. I interact with hundreds of people. I go snowboarding. None of my fans have anything bad to say about me because I love you all. But these people are not you guys.
“…I can’t explain it until you interact with these people and be around them. They seem to have a weird god complex. When I’m around them, I hurt them all and say, I just want to remind you, you’re only human, shut up.”
