The big question of what The Rock will be doing at WrestleMania 41 over Easter Weekend got something of an answer during the January 6 “WWE Raw.” During this event, “The Final Boss” decided to temporarily step down from his typical role as WWE made its debut on Netflix. Rock praised the fans for setting a new indoor gate record, congratulated Cody Rhodes for his role in carrying the company, and acknowledged Roman Reigns as “The Tribal Chief.” These developments have sparked much speculation about The Rock’s potential actions on the grandest stage of wrestling.
Dave Meltzer, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, explained that individuals within WWE believe the plan for Rock to face Cody Rhodes has officially been scrapped. This match had originally been teased the night after WrestleMania 40 and was initially set as the main event for one of the nights of WrestleMania 41. However, the focus has now shifted. The current plan for Rhodes is to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against John Cena. Meltzer indicated, though, that these plans could change depending on The Rock’s decisions.
While The Rock may not be facing Rhodes, the idea of a match against Roman Reigns is still under consideration. Nonetheless, since The Rock is not expected to compete at WrestleMania 41, the event does not seem likely to host this anticipated clash. Meltzer mentioned that the significant financial offers from regions such as Saudi Arabia, commonly made for boxing and UFC events, might impact the decision regarding the location of a Rock vs. Reigns match. Regardless of where it ends up happening, the match is expected to take place in the future, particularly since The Rock mentioned on the January 7 “WWE NXT” that he is always thinking 20 steps ahead.
