American Wrestlers Shine at 2024 Olympics

Spencer Lee had a tough final match against Japan’s Rei Higuchi at his debut Olympics, finishing second and taking home the silver medal. Despite Lee’s strong performance throughout the tournament, Higuchi’s speed proved too much, securing a 4-2 victory and the gold medal for Japan.

Even though he didn’t win gold, Lee’s journey to the Olympics was impressive, especially after overcoming an injury to win the U.S. trials. With the support of his enthusiastic fans, including his mother who is a famous French judoka, Lee now looks ahead to a potential strong return at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Helen Maroulis further cemented her status as one of the top female wrestlers in U.S. history with a quick victory in the bronze medal match, claiming her third Olympic medal. Despite contemplating retirement, the 32-year-old athlete decided to compete again and added another accolade to her illustrious career.

Aaron Brooks, a four-time NCAA champion, bounced back from a tough loss in the semifinals to clinch the bronze medal with a commanding 5-0 win. At 24 years old, Brooks is just hitting his stride in his career and has his eyes set on future Olympic opportunities.

The U.S. wrestling team had a successful showing at the Olympics, earning a total of five medals, including golds for Amit Elor and Sarah Hildebrandt in the women’s division.
