Gleason’s Gym, a well-known boxing facility in Brooklyn, is scheduled to have the street in front of its building renamed in its tribute. The intersection of Water Street and Adams Street in the DUMBO area of Brooklyn will soon bear the title Gleason’s Gym Way, a decision approved by the New York City Council. The gym’s proprietor, Bruce Silverglade, is thrilled about this recognition and intends to throw a celebration for the street renaming ceremony on August 21.

Founded in 1937 by Bobby Gleason, the gym has stood as a significant landmark for both boxing champions and enthusiasts. Noteworthy boxers such as Sonya Lamonakis have honed their skills and achieved remarkable success at Gleason’s Gym. The gym remains a favored venue for amateur boxing events and media workout sessions for major boxing spectacles in New York City. Gleason’s Gym Way joins a host of boxing personalities and establishments that have been commemorated through street co-namings over the years.
