Sean Strickland isn’t just an onlooker for UFC 305. He is positioning himself as a possible contender for the middleweight title. At the upcoming main event in Perth this weekend, Dricus Du Plessis will defend his 185-pound title against former champion Israel Adesanya. Strickland emerged victorious against Adesanya at UFC 293 in Sydney last year.

Strickland’s primary coach is confident that he has a strong case for the next title shot and might be ready to compete for the championship by November or December. Nevertheless, Du Plessis has indicated that the victor of the Robert Whittaker vs. Khamzat Chimaev bout could also be in line for the title shot. The decision might ultimately come down to choosing between Strickland and Chimaev, unless they meet in the octagon before that.
