Oleksandr Usyk retained his heavyweight titles in a challenging rematch against Tyson Fury. The Ukrainian champion secured a win by unanimous decision in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, sparking widespread discussion about the scoring.
All three judges scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Usyk, allowing him to keep the WBC, WBA, and WBO belts. Fury, known as ‘The Gypsy King’, took the defeat poorly, expressing anger over the decision and asserting that he should have emerged victorious.
Renowned boxing analyst Teddy Atlas shared his perspective on the bout, concurring with the judges by also scoring it 116-112 for Usyk.
“The judges got it right. I don’t understand all these people talking about robbery,” he commented.
Atlas analyzed the fight, highlighting that he awarded Usyk six consecutive rounds beginning from the sixth. While Fury claimed the final round, Atlas felt Usyk dominated most of the latter half.
“From the sixth round on Usyk does what he usually does. He had a bad fifth round and what does he do? He responds. He finds a way to win,” Atlas elaborated.
In another interview, Atlas continued to commend Usyk’s abilities and his standing in boxing history.
“Are you kidding me? He’s earned the right to be mentioned with all the top guys. He’s one of the great winners of our era … There’s not one thing he doesn’t do real well. There’s not one weakness,” he remarked.
Oscar De La Hoya was also in attendance for the fight. Although the boxing icon had his own opinions on who should have won, his comments have yet to be publicly disclosed.
The rematch between Usyk and Fury has ignited discussions throughout the boxing community. Fans and experts alike will continue to debate the outcome, as Usyk vs Fury delivered yet another memorable heavyweight showdown.
