Teofimo Lopez created a stir during the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga event weigh-in when he challenged Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to a fight, expressing his interest in facing him next. However, it is doubtful that Davis will agree to this match as he is more focused on competing against well-known opponents in the boxing arena.

Since his bout against Vasily Lomachenko in 2020, Teofimo has faced difficulties, resulting in disappointing losses to George Kambosos Jr., Jamaine Ortiz, and Sandor Martin. It is clear that Teofimo has been struggling to maintain his performance, particularly after moving up to the light welterweight category.

Apart from Davis, Teofimo also expressed a desire to fight Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford, even though these matchups seem improbable. While Teofimo had previously shown interest in challenging WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr., he has not pursued that fight further.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Teofimo’s career in the 140-pound division, focusing on opponents in his weight class who are willing to compete against him may be advantageous. Some feasible opponents for Teofimo at 140 pounds include fighters like Subriel Matias, Regis Prograis, Jose Ramirez, and others.

As Teofimo searches for his next opponent, Gervonta Davis is set to return to the ring on December 14th to face Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela, a rising star in the lightweight division. Unlike Teofimo, Valenzuela has been performing well in his recent matches and presents a formidable challenge for Davis.

As Teofimo charts his path in the sport, the approach he takes towards future fights and his ability to rediscover his top form in the competitive 140-pound division will be intriguing to watch.
