Tom Aspinall Calls Out Jon Jones’ Past Drug Test Flags
Jon Jones has faced significant controversy due to previous failures in drug tests related to turinabol. Over the years, Jones has maintained that he never intentionally ingested any banned substances. Notably, the amount of turinabol detected in his system was only a trace. Perspectives on Jones’ integrity vary widely; some believe he has been clean throughout his career, while others accuse him of dishonesty.
In a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Tom Aspinall articulated his position regarding this contentious issue.
British heavyweight Tom Aspinall labeled UFC rival Jon Jones a cheat for his history of drug test failures, declaring, "To me, that rules you out of being the best of all time." For those interested, the full interview can be watched on YouTube.
Aspinall stated, “The way that I look at it is he has failed a couple of drug tests. To me, that rules you out of being the best of all time.” When pressed about whether Jones’ failed tests permanently disqualified him from the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) discussions, Aspinall was firm in his response.
“Yeah, of course it does,” he affirmed. “If you’re on steroids or whatever, I don’t think he was on steroids, but he was on PEDs, performance enhancing drugs. If you’re on PEDs and your opponent isn’t, that’s absolutely cheating in my book, unless you’re both allowed to do it.”
When asked how he believes Jones will respond to his comments on the impact of drug test failures on Jones’ legacy, Aspinall offered insight into Jones’ personality. “Jon Jones seems to get his feeling hurt a little bit,” he remarked.
Aspinall continues to advocate for a title unification bout against Jones. After a successful title defense against Stipe Miocic in November, Jones has yet to commit to a fight with Aspinall. He has indicated that a substantial financial incentive would be necessary for him to agree to the matchup.
