It seems like Tom Aspinall will have to wait a long time before getting the chance to fight Jon Jones.
The potential showdown between the two UFC heavyweight champions – with Aspinall holding the interim belt from UFC 295 and Jones being the undisputed champion – is likely to be a highly anticipated topic in 2024. Aspinall has been keen on facing either Jones or Stipe Miocic in the near future.
Jones and Miocic were initially set to fight at UFC 295, but Jones had to pull out due to a chest injury. Instead, Aspinall competed against Sergei Pavlovich on the card and secured a first-round knockout victory to claim the interim title.
However, UFC CEO Dana White has made it clear that the Jones-Miocic fight will be rescheduled once Jones is fit to compete, effectively putting a hold on Aspinall’s aspirations to face either opponent. It seems that Aspinall’s recent efforts to secure a fight may go unnoticed for now.
Recently, Aspinall shared a lighthearted video on TikTok, using a filter to humorously depict himself aging while waiting for the opportunity to fight Jones.
Despite currently holding the top spot in the world MMA fighting rankings for heavyweights, it seems that Aspinall may have to wait a while longer before getting his chance to prove himself in the UFC.
