Tom Aspinall thinks he should face Jon Jones instead of Stipe Miocic.

Jones was set to defend his heavyweight title against Miocic at UFC 295, but due to an injury, Aspinall stepped in and won the interim title. While the UFC plans to reschedule the Jones-Miocic bout, Aspinall is growing impatient.

Recently, Aspinall posted on social media expressing his disapproval of Miocic’s title shot given his long absence from the octagon.

Aspinall points to UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who fought seven times since November 2021, while Miocic hasn’t fought in eight months. Despite this, the UFC seems reluctant to give Aspinall a shot at Jones or Miocic, much to his dissatisfaction.

In a tweet, Aspinall questioned the tradition of the interim champion not getting an undisputed title fight, expressing his belief that he deserves to prove he is the best.

“Sure, if you’re interim champion, your next fight should be an undisputed fight? Come on.

“Stipe is one of my favorites. Hats off to him, his resume is much better than mine. [right now]. That being said, the UFC has never been that way about this. It’s about who’s the best right now and I believe it’s me and it’s only right to prove it #freeaspinall.”

Miocic, the highly acclaimed UFC heavyweight, hasn’t fought since March 2021 and has no recent wins against ranked heavyweights. On the other hand, Aspinall has four victories against top-10 ranked heavyweights, all by first-round finishes.

Aspinall has previously suggested that Jones should be stripped of the belt due to injury, but it seems that Jones intends to face Miocic in 2024 for now, despite Aspinall’s objections.
