Trick Williams wants to be an NXT Champion backstage like Tommaso Ciampa was.
The NXT star is a two-time champion in the promotion. He recently won the belt back from Ethan Page. As he prepares to face Oba Femi in his next title defense, Trick Williams ponders about the kind of champion he wants to be.
Trick Williams spoke with Bully Ray on Busted Open Radio and revealed the wisdom Tommaso Ciampa taught him as NXT Champion.
He said that Ciampa walked around as champion and gave advice to Trick Williams on how to “handle business.” This inspired him and is something the NXT Champion wants to do for the next generation in NXT.
“Look at the greats who came before me. There’s a legacy. A rapport, that comes with holding this title. It meant something, and people treated it with respect.” Trick Williams said.
“Now, I’ve got to look at myself. I’ve got to be real. Do I carry this title the way it should be carried? You know what I mean? When Tommaso Ciampa walked around, we respected him. He held the title with pride. I looked at him and thought, That’s the NXT Champion right there.”
“And before I even knew everything I know now about this business, when I was out of line, Tommaso Ciampa pulled me to the side. He showed me the right way to handle business. I respected him as a champion,” he said.
“I want to do the same thing for everyone who comes after me. I want to hold this title the way it needs to be held. And I need to be that leader, I need to be the person who shows what’s right and what’s wrong when it comes to representing this brand,” added NXT Champion Trick Williams.
