Oleksandr Usyk’s team isn’t certain about a rematch with Daniel Dubois for the undisputed heavyweight title. The Ukrainian boxer just secured victory against Tyson Fury for the second time, retaining three of the four major world titles.
Usyk and Dubois clashed last year in Poland. The match stirred conversations when Dubois landed a punch that the referee deemed a low blow. Usyk took the full recovery time allowed before eventually stopping Dubois in the later rounds.
Currently, Dubois holds the IBF belt that Usyk relinquished. There is speculation they might face off again for all the titles. However, Alex Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, doesn’t seem particularly enthusiastic about the idea.
During an interview with FightHubTV, Krassyuk expressed his thoughts:
“Do you think Dubois wins Parker? My bet is with Parker. We don’t know what we’re going to see. Everything is possible or nothing is impossible.”
Krassyuk was referring to Dubois’ upcoming fight. On February 22, Dubois will defend his IBF heavyweight world championship against Joseph Parker. Parker, who previously held the WBO world title, has defeated both Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang in his last two fights.
The fight between Dubois and Parker promises to be a significant challenge. If Dubois is defeated, any discussions of a rematch with Usyk for all the belts will likely be postponed.
Usyk maintains an unbeaten record as a professional boxer. He has demonstrated his ability to handle pressure, rarely retreating in his recent victory over former two-time champion Tyson Fury. For now, it appears Team Usyk will adopt a wait-and-see approach regarding Dubois before making any significant future plans.
