Welcome to Midnight Mania!

James Vick, a former UFC fighter with a record of 13-6, faced tough times towards the end of his career.

Initially successful in the UFC Lightweight division, Vick’s luck changed for the worse after a knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in a main event fight.

Following the defeat by Gaethje, Vick went on to suffer four consecutive losses, three of which were by knockout. Another knockout in a regional match led him to Karate Combat, where he fought three times. In his latest bout, he was knocked out by Rafael Alves with an impressive jumping switch kick.

The seriousness of the knockout became clear when Vick had to be put into a medically induced coma after the fight. Asim Zaidi, the President of Karate Combat, discussed the incident on the Jaxxon podcast, expressing his worries about the knockout and the medical care Vick needed. Zaidi revealed that Vick was unconscious for days and relied on a respiratory machine for breathing.

Despite Vick’s wish to continue fighting, Zaidi prioritized ethics and decided against allowing him to return to the ring. Eventually, Vick retired from MMA after sustaining an orbital fracture in a regional loss in 2021.
