Raphael Assuncao was unhappy with the tactics used by Matt Walsh during their IBJJF Atlanta Spring Open match. Assuncao, a former UFC Bantamweight contender, retired in March 2023 after a defeat to Davey Grant, finishing his career with a 28-10 record. In a recent bout against Walsh, Assuncao emerged victorious by disqualification as Walsh’s illegal move caused a knee injury to Assuncao.
Following the match, Assuncao confronted Walsh and spat on him several times, alleging that Walsh had shown disrespect towards him during the match. Assuncao shared details of the incident on his Instagram, claiming that Walsh had made inappropriate remarks and then avoided further confrontation when confronted in person.
Having had a successful MMA career with significant fights in WEC and UFC, Assuncao now plans to undergo an MRI on his knee to determine the extent of the injury sustained during the match with Walsh.
Assuncao strongly criticized Walsh for his behavior and comments, pointing out his disrespectful attitude that ultimately led to the altercation after the match.
