Longtime fan favorite Seiko Akiyama was unable to make a successful comeback in Sunday’s match.

The Japanese star was swiftly defeated by former GLORY kickboxing champion Niekie Holzken in the first round of their 187.25-pound catchweight bout at ONE 165 in Tokyo.

Akiyama and Holzken engaged in a three-round mixed rules contest that involved boxing, Muay Thai, and MMA. The fight was stopped officially at the 1:40 mark of the first round.

Akiyama, who is now 48 years old, has been competing sporadically in the later stages of his martial arts career. Before this defeat at ONE 165, Akiyama had an MMA triumph over Japanese legend Shinya Aoki in March 2022.

Despite being a well-known figure in Asia, Akiyama gained recognition in the United States in the early 2010s during his time with the UFC. He faced off against notable competitors like Michael Bisping and Vitor Belfort and delivered numerous thrilling and memorable performances.
