The bad blood between UFC champion Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill nearly boiled over earlier today.
‘Poatan’ and ‘Sweet Dreams’ have been exchanging barbs online and in interviews for several months. Their feud originates from their encounter in the main event of UFC 300 back in April. Leading up to the fight, both fighters maintained a largely respectful tone, but Alex Pereira later admitted that Jamahal Hill had gotten under his skin during the promotional period.
In that April match, the Brazilian handed Jamahal Hill a first-round knockout loss. Post-fight, Hill expressed dissatisfaction with the way the bout ended and took issue with referee Herb Dean’s decision. Since then, Hill has frequently targeted Pereira in his social media posts, while Pereira has mainly responded by mocking Hill’s criticisms following their fight at UFC 300.
Things escalated earlier today when, as first reported by Full Send MMA, ‘Poatan’ almost got into a physical altercation with Hill at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. A video that surfaced on social media shows Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill shouting at each other, with Pereira even tossing a pair of gloves at Hill, seemingly trying to provoke him into a fight.
However, punches were ultimately not thrown. Alex Pereira’s longtime coach intervened as a peacemaker, separating the two fighters. Nonetheless, it’s hard to believe that this will be the last confrontation between ‘Poatan’ and Jamahal Hill.
Since their April battle, Hill has consistently expressed his desire for a rematch with Pereira. True to his word, earlier this month, Dana White announced that Hill will fight Jiri Prochazka in January.
If he wins, Jamahal Hill could potentially position himself for a rematch with Alex Pereira, who remains unbooked for his next fight. Pereira’s last appearance was in October, where he scored a knockout victory over Khalil Rountree Jr.
