Vince Morales is gaining attention in the local MMA scene.

After achieving his fifth straight victory post leaving the UFC, Morales utilized a distinct variation of the Peruvian necktie to force fellow UFC veteran Hunter Azure into submission at United Fight League 5 in Chandler, Arizona.

Peruvian neckties are uncommon in MMA, but Morales introduced his own twist to defeat Azure in the third round and secure the UFL bantamweight title. Among his recent five wins, four have been through knockout or submission.

Following a mixed UFC period where he held a 3-5 record, Morales chose to part ways with the organization after losses in 2022. His current record stands at 16-7 with triumphs over fighters such as Louis Smolka, Drako Rodriguez, and Aiemann Zahabi.

Morales detailed his approach to the Peruvian necktie, explaining, “So far I haven’t seen anyone hit any variation of the Peruvian necktie like that one. Main thing is instead of the hamstring going across the back of the head, the shin goes up against the neck to apply pressure on the carotid. More so like the D’Arce meets a Peruvian using the legs.”

Azure, boasting an 11-4 record, has experienced a 2-2 performance post his departure from the UFC in 2021. He secured the UFL bantamweight title in April 2023 but failed to secure a UFC return after being eliminated from The Ultimate Fighter 31 by Rico DiSciullo.
