Response from White on Jones’ Retirement Talks

Dana White is not taking Jon Jones’ retirement comments too seriously, even when they are directly from Jones himself. Since Jones announced his return in late 2022, his objective has been clear: to win the UFC heavyweight title and defend it against Stipe Miocic, who holds the record for the most heavyweight title defenses. Jones had hinted at retiring without a loss after achieving this goal, a plan he confirmed after UFC 306 at the Sphere on Saturday night.

Despite Jones’ statements, UFC CEO Dana White mentioned after Tuesday’s Contender Series event that he had not discussed retirement plans with Jones. White stressed the importance of focusing on the upcoming UFC 309 fight before making any decisions. White is hopeful that Jones can be persuaded to keep fighting, especially against interim champion Tom Aspinall, who is the official backup for UFC 309. White dismissed any rumors about Jones facing other opponents if he continues his fighting career, noting that Aspinall would be next in line for any post-fight scenarios.
