WWE has a lot of things in the works, and their jump to Netflix will open up a lot of possibilities. In the past, WWE has needed to air shows outside the United States on a pre-taped basis. However, that won’t be an issue now.
The technology exists to air any show live on television, and it was reported that Netflix is considering the option no matter where they are in the world. The only thing keeping WWE from doing this was their television home, but Netflix will not present those issues.
WWE has already confirmed that they will air six RAW shows and SmackDown from Europe next year. Those episodes of the red brand will be on a little bit sooner than fans in the United States are used to.
Mike Johnson of PW Insider reported that high-level WWE sources have confirmed plans for Monday Night RAW to air live weekly on Netflix starting in January 2025, regardless of the broadcast location. He went on to explain that those shows will air in the afternoon for fans in the United States.
“So, if and when the company is taping in Europe, Raw will stream live in the United States at the same time, no matter the time zone differences. The plan is to have the show air live as it happens and then be available via VOD ASAP after it goes off the air. There will no longer be a taped delay waiting for 8 PM Eastern, so when WWE tours Europe leading up to WrestleMania 41, those shows would air live in the United States in the afternoon.”
We will have to see what other things change when WWE RAW moves to Netflix. The show will also be uncensored, so that may open up a lot of creative opportunities. Only time will tell how WWE fans’ viewing habits will change in the meantime as well.
A lot of things are on the table for WWE’s move to Netflix. The Rock may also very well be a part of the story. We also know that John Cena will frequent the show during his final run with the company.
WWE RAW’s first episode on Netflix will air live from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Fans will have to wait until January 6 to see what goes down, but there will certainly be history in the making.
