The final showdown of the “The Fighter” tournament took place in Thailand recently, where local fighter Yuttapong Tongdee emerged victorious over France’s Giuliano Fantone. The event, organized by TL Boxing promotion, showcased Thailand’s top fighters in three televised bouts aired live on Work Point Television.
In this matchup, Tongdee, the current WBA Asia 118Ib champion with a spotless record of 15-0, faced Fantone, who held a record of 7-2. Despite Fantone’s initial advantage in reach and distance, Tongdee’s experience and continuous body attacks led him to a unanimous decision victory after ten intense rounds. Fantone had previously caused an upset by defeating Thai YouTuber Supphoolphol Tipphol in the earlier rounds of the tournament.
At 30 years old and ranked 12th by the WBA, Tongdee is now looking forward to a potential title shot, with Takuma Inoue as a possible opponent. On the other hand, 21-year-old Fantone remains positive about his future prospects in the sport.
Prior to his boxing career, Tongdee excelled as a Muay Thai fighter and represented Thailand in amateur boxing at a competitive level. With an impressive undefeated record, he is now close to vying for a world title.
Additionally, junior flyweights Thanongsak Simsri and Chaiyapruk Chainikom also secured victories in their respective bouts on the fight card, setting the stage for their future endeavors in the sport.
